Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students will have acquired:

2) the development of a critical ability to analyze the texts proposed in depth through reading and comparing different interpretative hypotheses

3) some essential elements for carrying out independent research on the discipline and topics covered during the course

Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

The course consists of lectures given by the instructor. Some lessons will include viewing and discussion of online content, such as interviews, videos, and images. Students who wish to do so may give a presentation in class on some of the topics covered.

Assessment Methods

Oral exam. The interview will assess the student's critical reading skills of the texts included in the exam program, through a first part chosen by the student and a second part consisting of a more in-depth analysis of some passages from the proposed texts. This will ascertain the students' knowledge of some fundamental concepts of Aesthetics and their acquisition of critical skills, based on the specificity of the scientific-disciplinary sector Phil-04/A-Aesthetics within the broader scientific area and in relation to related and contiguous sectors. The grade will be expressed in thirtieths.

Contents

Facing wars. Starting from one of the classic texts of contemporary philosophy, written during the events that led to World War II, Walter Benjamin's Theses on the Concept of History, the course will address some aesthetic and political aspects of contemporary wars.
