Syllabus

Course Objectives

The major aim of the course is to provide the students with the theoretical means for a critical understanding of the communicative processes typical of the political sphere in our society.
The course will consider them also from the perspective of the new social medias.

Course Prerequisites

No prerequisites.

Teaching Methods

The course will be made of lectures with multimedia presentations.
The initial part of all classes will be devoted to discuss the texts included in the final program.

Assessment Methods

The final exam will be made of two parts. The first will be a paper (about 20,000 characters with spaces). The second will be an oral discussion of it. The topic of the paper will be assigned by the instructor. The final grade will be expressed in thirties.

Contents

The first part of the course will analyze the languages typical of the totalitarian regimes of the Twentieth century. They represent a paradigmatic example which can support the understanding (either by analogy or by difference) of some communicative dynamics of our society.
The second part of the course will focus on the innovating dynamics introduced in the political language by the new media technologies such as the social medias.
