Syllabus

Course Objectives

The module of Special Pedagogy 1A together with that of Special Pedagogy 1B composes the course of SPECIAL PEDAGOGY A.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the module the student will learn about the main basic concepts of Special Pedagogy, their effects on the processes of education and intervention with elderly and/or persons with disabilities, analysed in their relationship with education and training processes, in the perspective of an inclusive pedagogy. S/he will also know the theoretical and epistemological models of disability and social inclusion, in relation to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF, 2001), as an innovative model of reflection. Awareness will be also achieved about the main changes that have influenced the definition and social vision of the person with disabilities in a historical perspective, as well as the main normative references, at national and international level.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the module the student will have achieved skills in the distinction - also in a historical perspective - between models of reading health and disability constructs, as well as their correlations with possible models of education, training and intervention.

Course Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, knowledge of
the founding concepts of General Pedagogy may support a full
understanding of the proposed contents.

Teaching Methods

Traditional lessons in presence wlill be held, with attention both to the full
exploration of theoretical constructs and to the support of experiential
activities, through the use of video materials, exemplifications and
experimentation of tools, contacts with local stakeholders of the social
community.
Students' proposals for in-depth study will be well received as part of the
overall teaching programme.
Additional materials specially selected will also be made available to
support the learning of working students

Assessment Methods

The students' learning process will be continuously monitored through effective feedback, during the lesson and at the end of it.

The test will consist of: 1) a written test (multiple choice test - 20 questions in 20 minutes) related to the contents of the texts of the institutional part, provided in the bibliography; 2) a subsequent written test (intended only for students who have passed the test 1 - 45 minutes), relating to the contents of all the texts listed in the bibliography and consisting of n. 2 open questions with argumentative answers.

The lesson slides and teaching materials available on the teaching page are to be considered an integral part. Those who have a "Special Pedagogy" exam for 12 CFU in their curriculum must take the two modules in the same day. The final grade will be the mean between the grade obtained in Module 1A and that obtained in Module 1B.

IT IS NECESSARY THAT THE STUDENT BRINGS WITH HIM/HER THE TEXTS STUDIED, in order to facilitate the conversation around the topics covered.

FOR ALL STUDENTS, the evaluation criteria will concern: - the completeness of the knowledge achieved on each of the proposed topics; - the correctness of the specific language of the scientific domain; - the exposition correctness in terms of logical, syntactical and grammatical construction
