Course Objectives
1) Disciplinary objectives (official course):
Acquisition of theoretical knowledge about the functions and use of metaphor. Developing, at a metalinguistic level, operational skills for the analysis of metaphor in contemporary Russian. Deepening translation skills, with particular reference to Russian political language.
2) Instrumental objectives (exercises/AAL):
Deepening of syntactic and lexical knowledge of the Russian language at an advanced C1 level of the Common European Framework.
At the end of the course, students will have acquired, consolidated and improved their instrumental skills in the four communication skills at the C1 level of the CEFR, as well as their translation skills (Russian–Italian). To this end, it is essential (although not formally mandatory) to attend the dedicated language learning activities (AAL).
Course Prerequisites
Level B2+ of knowledge and competence of the Russian language (Common European Framework)
Prerequisites: passing the Russian Language LM I exam is mandatory before taking this exam.
Teaching Methods
1) teaching methods of the official course:
Teaching is carried out through lectures in Russian. Particular attention is paid to group discussions of empirical works. During the course, individual works will be required that will contribute to the final assessment. All links and materials used during the course will be made progressively available on the e-learning platform (Moodle).

Assessment Methods
Learning assessment:
The exam consists of written tests and oral tests. Written tests: translation from Italian to Russian (duration 60 minutes) and from Russian to Italian (60 minutes), composition in Russian (150 minutes). Oral test: Conversation with argumentative skills and presentation in Russian of a topic agreed with the official teacher. Any individual work requested during the course will contribute to the final assessment. To access the oral exam, students must have passed each individual written test. The evaluation of the individual parts that make up the written test, including that of instrumental skills, is expressed in thirtieths, with a minimum passing threshold set at 18/30. The result of passing the written tests will be communicated electronically, the final result of the exam will appear in the student's electronic booklet.
Evaluation criteria:
The evaluation will take into account the level of acquisition of knowledge and skills required by the course, in particular linguistic correctness (lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic and phonological), terminological precision, adequacy with respect to the task required and mastery of linguistic analysis and reflection tools.
The assessments are divided into thirtieths according to the following bands:
- Excellent (30 cum laude) – Knowledge and skills fully acquired and applied with precision, effectiveness and autonomy. No errors.
- Very good (30–27) – Very solid knowledge and skills, applied correctly and confidently. Any minor and non-recurring errors.
- Good (26–24) – Adequate knowledge and skills, with some uncertainty or imprecision. Errors present but not serious or systematic.
- Sufficient (23–18) – Basic knowledge and skills acquired, but applied partially or with obvious errors. Sufficient general understanding.
- Insufficient (less than 18) – Deficient knowledge and skills not adequately developed. Numerous errors that compromise the success of the task.
Contents
1) Disciplinary contents (official course):
Introduction to the study of metaphor in contemporary Russian, with particular reference to the theory of conceptual metaphor. The topics will be addressed from both a theoretical and an empirical point of view, examining authentic data from various specialized contexts (political discourse, media, computer language, medical and legal terminology) that will also be partly analyzed from a comparative and translational perspective (Russian–Italian). The module is delivered in Russian.
