Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (15/09/2025 - 20/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the student has acquired the basic notions on the differential and integral calculus in several real variables, knows the basic notions and resolution methods for the more elementary ordinary differential equations.Furthermore, he or she is able to solve simple problems of free optimization, to manipulate curves and simple surfaces, he or she has elementary notions on Fourier series in one dimension.

Course Prerequisites

Differential and integral calculus in one variable. Linear algebra and geometry.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and practical activities. The course is divided into 36 hours of theoretical lectures and 24 hours for exercices.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a 2 hours written test including both exercises and theoretical questions. The marks assigned to each question will be detailed on the exam itself. The sum of all marks will be 33. The final mark will take into account the correctness, clarity and the ability to justify the conclusions reached. Moreover students will required to attain a sufficient balance in practical and theoretical skills. It is possibile to replace the final exam with two partial exams. The first one will be scheduled at half term and will concern the first part of the program. The second one will take place at the same time as the first complete exam during the winter session. It will concern the second part of the program, including the prerequisites contained in the first part. The two partial exams will have the same structure as the complete exam. Students who obtained at least 15/33 in the first partial exam are allowed to participate in the second partial. A make-up oral test can be offered to students who are not far from passing at the end of the partial or complete exams and who have achieved at least 15 points in each test taken.

Students who passed the first partial exam will be able to chose if they want to take either the second partial or the complete exam during the first winter exam session.
