Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (23/02/2026 - 06/06/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to make the students learn in depth some basic topics of the modern Topography (Geomatics) by illustrating in detail reference systems and surfaces as well as the innovative methodologies associated with satellite positioning systems, with the operative techniques of the plano-altimetric survey, including the digital techniques required to elaborate 2D/3D models starting from raw measures, with the use of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) platforms, the emergencies management, precision and sustainable farming. Treatment of the observations is used for adjusting plano-altimetric topographic networks by means of the least-square approach.
At the end of the course the student will have learned the most innovative surveying and monitoring techniques, to use some traditional and modern surveying instrumentations and to elaborate measurements for the three-dimensional positioning of precision applied to structures, infra-structures and the environment.
Illustrative examples and study cases complete the educational objectives of the course.

Course Prerequisites

It is advisable to attend the modulus of the first and second year courses with particular reference to Mathematical Analysis, Physics and Topography.With reference to the latter new themes are developed and fundamental arguments are dealt with particular emphasis to applications and to more advanced topics of the discipline.

Teaching Methods

The major part of the didactics, for an amount of 48 hours, will consist in frontal lessons and instrumental exercitations on the field with numerical elaboration, in particular, of measurements of azimuthal angles and difference altitude. Students, divided in small groups, will measure a small leveling network by using high precision levels, and will adjust it by using the least squares principle. Moreover, specific integrative activities of technical-operative training are expected, through demonstrations and demo, presentations of study -cases and applications of research and technical visits to construction sites.

Assessment Methods

The examination is oral with a contextual carrying out of written resolution of topographic networks, schemes, theretical principles,etc
During the exam the relations containing the elaborations of the measurements carried out during the exercitations of the course are presented.
Particularly the exam must verify:
- the knowledge of the theory, methods and illustrated procedures ;
- the critic capacity of the student to apply them to specific cases.
