Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (23/02/2026 - 06/06/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

During the last decades the progressive development of Geomatics involved the increase of all disciplines of the surveying: from spatial Geodesy to precision Topography, from Photogrammetry to Treatment of observations, from Digital Cartography to Remote Sensing, from Geographic Information Systems to the Decision Support Systems up to Forensic Geomatics. Hence it is necessary to provide the students of engineering with a strong cultural motivation aiming at the knowledge and the deepining of the disciplines of the geomatic surveying, more and more present in several professional areas. Students, experts in Geomatics, will be able to interact, more and more tightly, with other specialists which operate in the realization and in the conservation of structures/infrastructures or in the management of the land, thus having the possibility to offer the main contribution of the discipline from the preliminary phases of the design to the monitoring and control in a unified manner, respecting the efficiency and safety of a task, both and the safeguard and sustainability of the environment and its ecosystems, increasingly threatened by environmental and territorial emergencies.

Course Prerequisites

Essential pre-requisites are the knowledge of Topography, Statistics and Geomatic Surveying techniques for the students of the curriculum GL.

Teaching Methods

Lessons will be face to face by using the blackboard and slides with description of study-case, topics and research applications.

Assessment Methods

Exam will be oral.

Contents

Geomatic monitoring techniques for controlling the displacements of the territory , structures and infrastructures: methods and instruments, examples and applicative cases. Digital techniques 3D: photogrammetry and LIDAR. Principles and data treatment . Applications to the Cultural Heritage and for the structural control. Satellite surveying and GNSS applications in geodetic and engineering contexts. Monitoring of the landslides and the landfills. Monitoring of dams and big structures. Remote sensing from UAV platforms for the management of environmental emergencies and for the monitoring of the crops for the sustainable agricolture. Surveillance monitoring. Bayesian networks for controlling displacements of the structures. Multi-criteria methods for decision making processes in post-emergency events and in applications of urban regeneration.
