Syllabus

Course Objectives

The part relating to the management of industrial companies:

The course intends to teach about the economics and the management of industrial businesses, starting with the basics of industrial economics.


The part relating to the management of international businesses:

At the end of the module, students will have developed the skills necessary for managing the internationalization processes of companies. They will have learned how to operate in terms of marketing "for and in" international markets with particular attention to the choice of countries and entry channels, as well as the differences between adaptation and specialization.

Teaching Methods

The course is characterized by lectures, with particular attention to discussion and direct dialogue with the students.

During the course, meetings with experts and entrepreneurs will be organized in order to better understand how to manage a firm.

For attending students, there will be practice exercises and classroom activities.


Assessment Methods

The knowledge acquired is verified through a written test.


For the part relating to the management of industrial companies:

- Written exam: open questions. Each question will have the same value in terms of points. In order to pass the exam, the student has to obtain at least 18 points.

For attending students, the final mark will include the evaluation of the in-class exercise. In this regard, it is important that the student correctly enrolls in the international module (located among the partial exams) and in the "industrial + verbalization" module (located among the complete exams).

The part relating to the management of industrial companies:

  • Business theories, cost structures, Market structures: competition, oligopoly, monopolies, monopolistic competition. Industrial structure and economic results. Strategic attitude. Determining price. Vertical integration, technology, and innovation.


The part relating to the management of international businesses:

  • The international market scenario. 
  • Stages and forms of the internationalization process.
  • International business management: strategic and organizational aspects.
  • Methods of entry into foreign markets.
  • The internationalization of SMEs: opportunities and challenges. T
  • The segmentation of international markets.
  • The international marketing mix.
  • The sustainable management of international business.

More information

With the specific purpose of pursuing the educational objectives set by the TRANSET Program within the framework of the Department of Excellence 2023-2025, the course will involve specific educational and training activities on the topics of social, ecological, and technological transition.
