Syllabus

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will have acquired a solid understanding of smart manufacturing technologies, including their characteristics, requirements, and applications across different production contexts.

They will also be able to analyze specific manufacturing technologies, evaluating their advantages and disadvantages, identifying the main system components, the underlying physical principles, process parameters, and key industrial applications.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of the knowledge and skills acquired will be based on the following:

  • An individual test on the topics covered during the course module;
  • The presentation of an individual project. The project may be carried out either at a company or within the university. It will be assigned by the teacher to each student based on the availability of company projects, the scientific alignment between the proposed topics and the student’s profile, as well as the student's availability and willingness to participate in company-based activities

  1. Introduction to Manufacturing Technologies: overview of key manufacturing processes and their role within modern production systems.
  2. Smart Manufacturing Technologies: definition, distinguishing features, operational requirements, competitive advantages, and main application areas.
  3. Analysis of selected Manufacturing Technologies: study of the physical principles, tool characteristics and materials, system components, process parameters, achievable performance, and related industrial applications.
