Course Objectives

Skills related to the physiology of physical activity about motor control and ergometabolic function in normal and special conditions


Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of physics, biochemistry and biology

Contents

Nervous system (general organization, somatosensory system, nociception, specific sensory systems, higher cognitive functions, autonomic nervous system)

Motor control (motor system, descending motor pathways, voluntary movement, basal nuclei, cerebellum, posture)

Muscle physiology (skeletal muscle, muscle contraction, muscle strength, muscle power, rate of shortening, type of muscle actions)

Integrated heart-lung-muscle complex during exercise

Skeletal muscle metabolism, energy sources and biochemistry of muscle contraction

Anaerobic metabolism, thresholds, lactate curve, cardiopulmonary test
