Course Objectives

B2 (Vantage) level of competence in English, and a metalinguistic awareness of the main translation theories and techniques.

Course Prerequisites

B1 (Threshold) level of competence in English.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, debates on the arguments presented in class, applied language activities, personalized student project (for attending students only).

Assessment Methods

Computer test: 1) Grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, listening comprehension. Oral test 1) Discussion based on the bibliography, the 'dispensa' and the analyses done by students (attending students only)

This course describes the main syntactic and lexical features of the main varieties of contemporary English. We will focus on the translation theory and practice of different text types in English and in particular, on the translation of children's and young adult texts.
