Course Objectives
DISCIPLINARY COMPETENCE: by the end of the module students will see improved and consolidated their own theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the use of the grammatical category of verbal aspect and verbs of motion in the Russian language.(B2/C1 level of the CEFR). They will be able to use verbal aspect in various communication needs, especially in the live spoken language, and in translation of texts from Italian into Russian and vice versa.
COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE: students will achieve also good communication skills for B1+ level of competence (CEFR), please consult the web pages of the Language Competence Centre on language training activities (Russian Language AAL B1+, 1st semester).
Course Prerequisites
Pass in Russian Language I exam.
Teaching Methods
Lectures (in Italian and Russian) with active involvement of students and constant monitoring of real comprehension and gradual assimilation of the topics (through applied activities in classroom; weekly correction and evaluation of translation homework – to be considered as in itinere informal tests); use of audio-visual tools (Internet), multimedia aids and Moodle e-learning platforms.
As regards instrumental skills (exercises/AAL), students are required to access the various language learning activities by consulting the section of the website dedicated to the University Language Centre by choosing Russian - LLCS: https://www.unibg.it/studiare/frequentare/ imparare-linguistico/russo.
FOR MORE EFFECTIVE LANGUAGE LEARNING THE FREQUENCY OF LECTURE COURSES (AS WELL AS THE FREQUENCY OF LANGUAGE TRAINING ACTIVITIES AAL B1+) IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, ALTHOUGH NOT REQUIRED. Erasmus students, students from other Departments and, in general, NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS (including Russian or Slavonic speaking students) are asked to contact the lecturer AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSES in order to clarify their own position.
Assessment Methods
WRITTEN EXAM (dictionaries are not allowed): The exam consists of a 1 hour 30 minutes test (to be passed with a minimum score of 18/30) related to the lecturer course. Special tests in order to check the communication skills for B1+ level of competence (CEFR) are also contemplated: a 2 hour ‘didactic’ translation (grammar and syntax of the 1st and 2nd semester) from Italian into Russian (to be passed with minimum score of 18/30). ORAL EXAM: MODULE A and B RUSSIAN LANGUAGE II. Passing all the written tests gives the opportunity to take the oral exam in order to check how well the student has assimilated the lecture course contents. In particular, students should demonstrate that they have acquired special translation skills in the use of verbal aspect, then to demonstrate that they can speak with appropriate use of language on the theoretical part of lecture course (knowledge of grammatical terminology in Russian and metalinguistic reflections ability included). The exam also includes a speaking practice test in Russian language. ASSESSMENT: The final mark exam (18/30 is the pass level) is calculated based on the evaluations (written and oral exams) for RUSSIAN LANGUAGE II, related to the lecture course (disciplinary competence). Achieving the communication skills for B1+ level of competence (CEFR) also contributes to the definition of the final mark.

MODULE A RUSSIAN LANGUAGE II (1st semester)
DISCIPLINARY COMPETENCE. The grammatical category of verbal aspect in Russian language: definition of aspect; formation of aspectual pairs (base-verbs and derivative verbs); mono-aspectual and bi-aspectual verbs; contrastive analysis (imperfective vs. perfective) and especially: in different sequences of tenses, in negative sentences, in the imperative and infinitive moods, in the future tense, with meaning of necessity; stylistic uses. Usage of some verbal prefixes with ’actional’ meaning. Comparative analysis and translation issues between Italian and Russian. ‘Cloze’ exercises, ‘didactic’ translation’ (both ways) of Italian and Russian, analysis of verbal aspect in literary and non-literary texts. MODULE B RUSSIAN LANGUAGE II (2nd semester)
DISCIPLINARY COMPETENCE. Verbs of motion in Russian language in typological perspective in comparison with Italian. The 14 verbs of motion of the 1st type and the corresponding 14 verbs of the 2nd type, with and without prefixes: implications for orthography, morphology and aspect; conjugation; formation of aspectual pairs; meanings and usages (main and idiomatic ones). Comparative analysis and translation issues between Italian and Russian. ‘Cloze’ exercises, ‘didactic’ translations (both ways) of Italian and Russian, verbs of motion in literary and non-literary texts.

EARLY PARTIAL TESTS: RUSSIAN LANGUAGE II (1st semester). The tests (both written and oral) on the use of verbal aspects (module A for Russian Language II) and the test of ‘didactic’ translation (grammar and syntax of 1st semester) ONLY FOR ACTIVELY ATTENDING STUDENTS can be held at the end of the 1st semester in the winter session. Test must be registered through the Student Internet Desk. REGISTRATION DEADLINE AND EXAM DEADLINE - RUSSIAN LANGUAGE IIA. The early partial tests, the written and oral exam registration DEADLINE, through the Student Internet Desk, IS 5 DAYS before the scheduled date of the exam. ENTRY REQUESTS AFTER THAT DEADLINE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. THE WRITTEN TESTS (with the exception of tests that attending students can hold in advance) MUST BE TAKEN ALL TOGETHER IN THE SAME EXAM SESSION. Then the candidate can repeat the failed tests (ALL TOGETHER) in the following sessions. The written tests are to be completed with the oral exam WITHIN 18 MONTHS from the date of the first written test passed. WHEN THE DEADLINE EXPIRES, STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE WRITTEN EXAM IN FULL. MOODLE E-LEARNING PLATFORMS - In order to access the e-l platforms, students are asked to inform in advance the lecturer via e-mail of their own name, surname, matriculation number and degree course. Students are required to consult regularly their own student e-mail, the e-learning platforms, to download the materials and to bring them to the classroom. The e-l platforms are designed in "BLENDED" MODE, therefore they support classroom teaching and do not replace frontal lessons or language training activities (they should NOT be understood as a distance course).
