Syllabus

Course Objectives

The student acquires the fundamentals for the analysis of different configurations of territoriality, focusing on the role of mapping in the representation of spatiality and the system of conveying spatial knowledge in order to develop sustainable territorial processes.

Teaching Methods

Teaching will be carried out through face-to-face lectures, but with a focus on discussion and active participation of students. To this end, interactive lectures and in-depth studies carried out also with the participation of students are planned. This method, is supported by visual instrumentation (power point), media footage and network links, in order to facilitate learning.


Assessment Methods

The examination is conducted in written form divided into two parts relating to the two modules that make up the composed teaching area. Each part involves the writing of a paper - to be completed in 1h30 - consisting of 3 open questions, aimed at ascertaining the student's acquisition of the notions taught within the module. The first two questions cover the part of the program common to all students, while the third is declined on the students' profile based on whether they are attending or not. Specifically, the exam tests the acquisition of: - knowledge of the geographical concepts developed during the teaching; - the student's critical ability to decline them into specific examples and relate them to each other; - synthesis skills in written elaboration. - Of the ability to accurately enucleate the proposed question and answer it in a timely manner. The final grade, resulting from the average of the marks obtained in the two papers and an overall evaluation, will be expressed in thirtieths, communicated to the student via electronic booklet, and the student will have the option of accepting or not accepting the grade, within three days of the publication of the results.


Contents

The module provides the theoretical and methodological foundations for understanding contemporary spatial configurations, investigating concepts such as landscape, place, environment and their representations. It also prospects the set of procedures through which societies order, modify and structure the earth's surface. Finally, the module identifies cartography as the privileged system for representing spatiality and conveying socio-territorial values.
