Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (17/02/2026 - 24/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Students acquire the foundations of the economic and political analysis of globalization by investigating the changes in the geopolitical configurations of the area and their impact on socio-economic systems at local scale.

Course Prerequisites

None.

Teaching Methods

The course is held through lectures, maybe also through digital devices, but with a specific attention to the interaction and the participation of students. For this reason, there will be interactive lessons with the participation of students. This method is supported by visual tools (power point presentations) and multimedia connections, in order to facilitate learning.

Assessment Methods

The exam is written and concerns two parts, one for each part of the compound activity Territorial studies. Each part implies a written exam - during 1h30 - composed by three open questions aiming at verifying that students acquire concepts presented at lesson.

In particular, it verifies the acquisition of:

- the knowledge of geographical and juridical concepts developed at lesson;

- students critical capacity to give specific examples and to connect them

- the capacity to apply the aspects concerning sustainability, conservation and participation, for geography, as well as, the relation between immigration, citizenship and human rights, for law, in an international context.

The exam evaluation - resulting from the average of the two written exams and a general evaluation of the student - will be expressed on thirty points, communicated to students and registered in their on line career book.

Contents

The module provides the theoretical and methodological foundation for the analysis of geo-economic space. By the systemic approach of network geography, we investigate the emergence of new areas of production and the growing interdependence between the various regions of the globe that have produced new economic and geopolitical scenarios. The application of this system is exemplified by case studies at the national and international level.

Topics covered during the course:

  • globalisation
  • economy and environment
  • population
  • geography of the different economic sectors
  • international trade
  • cities as economic centres
  • development policies
