Course Objectives

Disciplinary objectives (official course taught by the lecturer)

  • To acquire theoretical, practical and methodological knowledge in the field of digital discourse analysis.
  • To conduct original research into a specific phenomenon related to digital discourse using Python.
  • At the end of the course, students will also have acquired, deepened and improved their instrumental competence in the communication skills at CEFR level B2, with particular emphasis on written reception and written production,

B2 Level of English (CEFR)


Teaching Methods

With regard to disciplinary skills (official course taught by the lecturer):

Interactive lectures in English; empirical work and group discussions. All links and materials used during the course will be progressively made available on the e-learning platform (Moodle).


Assessment Methods

Assessment

The final examination consists of a written paper in which students will present a language research project using Python.

Assessment criteria

Assessment will take into account project and expressive skills, lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic and phonological correctness and disciplinary competence.

Evaluation grid :

  •  Excellent (30 cum laude): comprehensive skills, applied with precision and autonomy. No mistakes.
  •  Very good (30-27): solid competence, applied correctly. Minor and non-recurring mistakes.
  •  Good (26-24): adequate competence, with some inaccuracies. Neither serious nor systematic mistakes.
  •  Sufficient (23-18): basic competence, with evident mistakes but sufficient understanding.
  • Not sufficient (<18): deficient competence, numerous mistakes compromising the outcome of the examination.



Contents

Disciplinary content (official course taught by the lecturer)

This course analyses the ways language is used in the context of digital communication technologies, exploring the co-creation and bidirectional influence of language and technology. The students will explore issues of technology and language change in the tension between orality, literacy and iconicity; analyze genres of multimodal discourse that are unique to digital technologies in affinity with identity performance and community formation. They will be introduced to Python for languistic analysis
