Course Objectives

Students will acquire the ability to relate concepts and theories of sociological thought (classical and contemporary) with the analysis of contemporary social phenomena.

On the one hand, students will acquire the fundamental categories of the evolution of sociological thought, from the founding authors of the discipline to the current debate on major issues, being able to identify conflicts, cleavages, and central dynamics of the evolution of modern society from a conceptual point of view.

On the other hand, these categories will be tested by the analysis of some contemporary macro phenomena, such as political, economic, labor and cultural changes, as well as the conflicts that cross these social subsystems.
