Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with the fundamentals of data analysis and to introduce the main methodologies used in this field. In addition, the student will explore certain methods for organizing and representing information, with particular attention to archiving processes, the Internet, and the Web.


By the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the structural characteristics of complex systems and their evolution, including in relation to specific application areas and case studies discussed in class. Furthermore, the student will be familiar with the main approaches to representing information in hypertextual and multimedia contexts, as well as the fundamentals of human-computer interaction and interaction design.


At the end of the course, the student will be able to carry out simple data analyses and network analyses, as well as design a hypertext document.

None


Teaching Methods

Lectures and design activities in the lab.


Assessment Methods

Written exam, graded on a scale of 30, lasting 60 minutes.

Exam format: multiple-choice with twelve questions (each correct answer worth two points), plus one HTML exercise to be completed on paper (worth eight points).

The exercise will be evaluated based on the following criteria: correctness of inserted tags/markup, and correctness of the page structure created.

  • Types, description, and representation of data
  • Introduction to probability and statistics for data analysis
  • Basics of computer science: hardware and software
  • Internet and Web: structure, organization, protocols, and multimedia
  • Information organization and retrieval
  • Human-computer interaction, usability, and web accessibility
  • Markup and presentation languages for information
