The course prepares students to reach the CEFR B2 level. Moreover, students will acquire some notions of linguistics and the principles of intercultural communication, in particular as applied to different professional fields, including psychology.
Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Lectures, individual and group activities.
The exam comprises a written test and an oral one.
Students are allowed to take the oral test only after passing the written test; the oral test should be taken within 18 months after passing the written test.
A) Written computerised test
Dictionaries are not allowed.
1) Reading comprehension,
2) Use of English,
3) Listening comprehension
Students are invited to attend one of the B2 courses offered by the language centre (CCL).
B) Oral exam.
Oral exam: discussion (in English) about the course and the reading topics. The oral exam is assessed according to the following criteria: breadth and accuracy of the contents, grammatical and syntactic correctness, argumentative ability, variety of lexicon.
The course will help students to understand the complexities of language and intercultural communication in diverse professional settings.
The course will include reading, listening and speaking practice, with a particular focus on linguistics and psychology.
Lecture slides and the detailed programme for the oral exam will be made available on Moodle during the course.
Students with a B2 or C1 language certificate may be exempted from the written exam.
