Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of the neuroanatomical and neurophysiological basis of normal and pathological human behavior (with a particular focus on disorders of social behavior).
The course provides students with the capacity to understand the role of psychobiological factors in regulating elementary and complex behaviors, to understand the psychobiological basis of behavioral disorders, and to promote awareness on advanced approaches in psychobiology.

Course Prerequisites

This course requires a basic knowledge of anatomy and fisiology of the nervous system provided in the courses ‘Fundamentals of Psychobiology’ and ‘Cognitive Neuroscience’.

Teaching Methods

Teaching will be conducted through lectures with the help of video / web resources. Scientific papers on the topics of the course will be also presented and discussed with students.
Non-attending students must adhere to published online program.

Assessment Methods

The exam involves the evaluation of the acquired knowledge through a written exam consisting in 31 multiple choices questions that aim to test theoretical knowledge as well as the capacity to connect different aspects of psychobiology. Test time: 45 minutes.

Methods of psychobiology: behavioral, neuropsychological, electrophysiological approaches, neuroimaging, non invasive brain stimulation. Introduction to physiological bases of cognitive, affective and motor disorders. Psychobiology of social cognition and its disorders. Psychobiology of addictive behaviors. Introduction to forensic neuroscience.
