Syllabus

Course Objectives

To acquire a critical knowledge of the contexts of production and circulation of contemporary literary texts; to acquire tools for the analysis of the literary text in an interdisciplinary and transcultural perspective. To promote critical awareness in the approach to cultural heritage; to strengthen communication skills and the ability to enhance artistic heritage. To acquire specific skills in literature teaching.

Teaching Methods

Lectures and seminars; discussion with students of the proposed themes; in-depth analysis of issues raised in dialogue with students; participatory teaching, with students' presentation of topics covered during the course, in the form of a round table; guided exercises.


The course involves the use of slides and materials made available to students on a multimedia platform (Moodle).


Assessment Methods



The examination is oral and the grade is given in thirtieths.

For attending students, it is possible, without obligation, to take the exam in written form, in two separately assessed midterm papers. The final grade will be the average between the two assessments obtained.

The first test consists of an open question regarding a specific topic explored in depth during the course, in the form of a paper done in the classroom (time two hours). Evaluation in thirtieths that takes into consideration level of knowledge of the topic, coherence and cohesion of the text, syntactic and lexical correctness.

The second test consists of two sections with 10 closed questions, a completion text and a lexical proficiency exercise (time two hours). Evaluation in thirtieths that takes into consideration knowledge, skills, ability to use appropriate vocabulary.

Both tests will cover topics covered in class.



Contents

The course examines the portrayal of women’s work in 20th-century and 2000s Italian literature, relating poetic, narrative, and essayistic texts to the country’s social, economic, and cultural transformations. Through the figures of working women, the course will analyze the ways in which one’s profession influences the construction of female identity, family relationships, the body, the desire for autonomy, and forms of social recognition. Particular attention will also be given to the narrative perspective: the portrayal of women’s work will be examined in texts by both female and male authors, comparing different perspectives, poetic writings, coming-of-age novels, factory narratives, and feminist reflections.
