Alongside the acquisition of advanced knowledge in the history of Italian art and architecture from the 15th to the 18th century, the course will foster the development of independent critical thinking and the ability to understand the historical, cultural, and social factors underlying artistic creation. This will also be achieved through the assimilation of major historiographical trends and the methodologies used in historical disciplines.
By the end of the course, students are also expected to be able to relate works of art and monuments to one another and to their landscape, archaeological, and social contexts, in order to develop an awareness of the complex nature of cultural heritage and to understand the needs for its preservation and enhancement.
A basic knowledge of the subject is recommended. If necessary, it's recommended to adopt a school textbook on art history (limited to the period between the 15th and 16th centuries).
Lecture.
Oral exam with images ID and questions.
The course focuses on the role of patrons and their relationship with the artists, retracing from this angle the events that led to the creation of works of art from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century.
