Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to introduce male and female students to the study, analysis and understanding of organizational dynamics and cultures from the symbolic elements that make up the social world and its ties. Through reference to the tradition of community studies, male and female students will be able to critically read organizational complexity embedded in the contemporary socio-territorial context.


Course Prerequisites

No prerequisites are needed to attend the activity.

Assessment Methods

Assessment consists of verifying that the student has acquired:

1. The course content (with specific reference to the recommended texts);

2. The ability to critically and originally “traverse” the proposed content by producing a synthesis between knowledge and personal reworking;

3. The ability of adequately argued written production;

4. The ability of oral expression logically consequential and appropriate to the level of depth of analysis required.

5. The ability to synthesize thought expressed in both written and oral form.


To achieve these objectives, two alternative modes of assessment are proposed from which the student may choose.

1. “Traditional” mode: - Oral interview on open questions from the recommended texts.

2. “Step” mode: - A first step consists of the production of a written text from reflection and personal reworking on the content covered in the course (in itinere); - A second step consists of the production of a written paper and multimedia production to be presented publicly in class on dedicated occasions on in-depth topics related to the sociology of consumption and that do not directly form the curricular content of the course; - A third step consists of an oral examination on specific parts of the program. The course will develop the following contents:


  • Community studies: classical and contemporary theories and references;
  • Community and society as forms of social bonding;
  • Forms of social change in advanced modernity and transformations of social bonds;
  • Community form between early modernity and contemporaneity;
  • Notions of the sociology of organization;
  • Organizational cultures;
  • Organizational memories as reducers of complexity.
