Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to develop students' ability to analyze and critically interpret the key factors driving economic integration between national economies and the international mobility of goods, labor, and capital.

By the end of the course, students will have gained essential concepts and tools to understand and evaluate the determinants and consequences of the integration processes shaping the global economic system.


Course Prerequisites

Prerequisites included in the study plan. It is preferable to have taken an introductory course in International Economics.


Teaching Methods

The course will include lectures, in-depth studies, and class discussions on current issues, aimed at understanding the practical relevance of the theories studied.


Assessment Methods

The exam will consist of a written test that includes true/false questions, multiple-choice questions, and open questions/exercises. The test is designed to verify students' understanding of the models and their ability to apply them to interpret the characteristics of the international economic system.

  • International integration: key concepts and stylized facts
  • Determinants and benefits of opening up to international trade
  • Imperfect competition, economies of scale, and international trade
  • Business heterogeneity, commercial openness, and reallocations
  • Multinational companies and foreign direct investment
  • International migrations
  • Trade policies
  • Balance of payments
  • Real exchange rate and purchasing power parity
  • Determinants of the exchange rate
