By the end of the course, the student will develop a critical approach to the history of the Twentieth Century: he will grasp the fundamental lines of development and the turning points; he will master proper categories of analysis; he will be aware of the various explanations historians have given about the main topics, among the ones that have been considered in class; he will be able to compare situations in space or time; he will acquire specific and appropriate conceptual and expressive tools. Then he will have learned to reason historically, overcoming a naive approach to historical events.
The Contemporary History course requires a textbook knowledge of the global history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Teaching will be delivered through lectures, but with a particular focus on discussion and dialogue with students, who will be able to formulate suggestions for further study and discussion during the lessons.
The exam consists of a written test (two open-ended questions and ten closed-ended questions). The grade is expressed in thirtieths.
