Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to introduce students to critical knowledge of: 1) the basic concepts and main notions of sociology of communication; 2) the phenomenon of the leisure time, with special reference tothe sport and his spectalurazitaion (eg. big events like Olympic Games, international and world championships, etc.); 3) the main notions of sociology of sports.

- Lectures;

- In-class seminars and workshops;

- Individual study



Assessment Methods

1. Course content (with specific reference to the recommended texts);

2. The ability to critically and creatively approach the proposed content, producing a synthesis of knowledge and personal reinterpretation;

3. The ability to produce adequately argued written work;

4. The ability to express oneself logically and appropriately, taking into account the depth of the analysis required.

5. The ability to synthesize the thoughts expressed in both written and oral form.

To achieve these objectives, two alternative assessment methods are offered for students to choose from.

1. "Traditional" method: Production of a written essay based on open-ended questions based on the recommended texts. Exam duration: 60 minutes.

2. "Step-by-step" method: - A first step consists of the production of a written paper and a multimedia production to be presented publicly in class on dedicated occasions on in-depth topics related to the sociology of sport that are not directly part of the course's curricular content;

- A second step consists of a written exam on specific sections of the syllabus. In both cases, the final grade is derived from the average of the results achieved in each test and is expressed in thirtieths.

The course will focus on the following topics: 1. Basic notions of sociology 2. Communication as a relational processor 3. The industrialization of leisure time 4. Sport as a social practice 5. The phenomenon of cultural globalization and leisure time 6. Global imaginaries in sport.
