Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the theoretical and methodological foundations of sport and organizational psychology, in a perspective of multidisciplinary integration aimed at the educational objectives of the Master's Degree in Sport Sciences.

Teaching Methods

The course includes lectures, presentation and discussion of sports projects in the field of sport and organizational psychology, dedicated to the deepening of the topics covered, film screenings, participatory activities in the classroom.


Assessment Methods

The expected learning outcomes will be assessed through an oral interview based on the following evaluation criteria: relevance and effectiveness of the answers in relation to the contents of the program; level of articulation of the answer; adequacy of the disciplinary language used; ability to critically discuss the topics covered. The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieths.


Contents

The program is divided into the following areas of knowledge and expertise in the psychology of sport organizations:

 1. Goal setting and behavioural rules:

Goal setting;Teaching behavioral rules preparatory to learning;Stress management in the training of performance of excellence;Management of the internal states of the athlete;Interpersonal relationships among players, trainers and staff members in a group/team.

2. Emotions, arousal, anxiety

How emotions impact on performance; Emotional processes features;Neurobiology of emotions;The early psychological theories of emotions; Valence and arousal;Anxiety, arousal and stress;Arousal and sport performance;

3. Personality, coping, resilience, antifragility 

Personality and behavior; The three levels of personality;The mains psychological approach of personality; The iceberg profile of personality;Coping strategies;Antifragility: thriving in disorder.

4-5. Motivation, interpersonal motivational systems, and AMSI (Adult Motivational Systems Interview) interview protocols

 Motivational processes in sport;Characteristics of motivational processes;Biological aspects;Sport participation and the phenomenon of sport dropout;Goal achievement in sport; Improvement of motivation;The desire to know, analyze and live the one’s motivations (AMSI);The interpersonal motivational systems (AMSI); AMSI. Guide to interviews and analysis of emerged information (AMSI).

6. Perception and attention

 Open circuit and close circuit behaviors; Perception;The intrinsic perception-attention link; Assumptions for the mirror system activation; The mirror system in athletes;Motor imagery; What attention is; Biological foundations of attention; Attentional processes; Attentional style.

7. Memory and learning

 The mnestic process;Learning;Memory;Spatial memory.

8. Woking groups and group dynamics and leadership

 Mental life of the group;The group spirit;Team discipline;How teams regress defensively: the group basic assumptions; The dependency group;The fight-flight group.

9. Leadership and followership

 From leadership styles to situational approach; From transitional leadership to transformational leadership; Leadership empowering and team leadership;Authentic leadership; Followership: definition, types and models.

 

10. Kowing and learning in the organizations

Frame size: working mutations, articulations of professionalism and challenges to subjectivity; Learning and knowing in organizational contexts. The practical turning point according to the sociology of work and organizations;Knowledge as anomalous resource from an economic perspective. Risk and Responsibility of the meaning making;From reflectivity to reflexivity: reflective practices to support knowledge and learning.

11. Reading and managing the conflict in organizations

 Minimal gleaning on the conflict;Origin and historic development of the concept of conflict; Organizational conflict: mains reading keys;Conflict and organizational life: some points of attention;Organizations as emotional arenas.

12. Change and development in sport organizations

  The organizational change scenario; Models of change; Change resistances;  adapt to the uncertainty and unpredictability of organizational processes in sport societies.
