Syllabus

Course Objectives

By means of simple tools (graphics, logic) the course aims to provide basic knowledge useful to the understanding of the main dynamics and phenomena in economics. Furthermore, the course focuses on those aspects most related to legal studies such as: publics goods, public sector economics, taxes, monopoly, banking systems and financial markets.

Teaching Methods

La didattica si svolgerà prevalentemente tramite lezioni frontali, ma con un'attenzione particolare all’interazione con gli studenti, che potranno, durante le lezioni, formulare proposte di approfondimento o di dibattito.

Assessment Methods

Assessment will be by means of a final written exam. Supplementary oral exams are not available.
The procedure and content of the exam will be the same for both attending and non-attending students.
The written exam will consist of four open questions.
Each question is marked out of thirty. In order to pass the exam as a whole, a pass mark (18/30) must be achieved for each of the four questions. The final grade will be the arithmetical average of the marks for the four questions, rounded to the nearest whole number.
Each separate answer will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- relevance to the question;
- comprehensiveness in relation to the question;
- inclusion of appropriate links;
- conciseness (without redundancy or repetition);
- command of language;
- clarity of presentation.

*Microeconomics* - Consumer and firm theories; - Elasticity; - Production costs; - Perfect competition; - How markets work: supply and demand; - Market efficiency; - Non competitive markets: Monopoly, Oligopoly, Monopolistic competition; - Introduction to Public Economics: externalities, public goods and taxation; *Macroeconomics* - The main macroeconomic aggregates; - Inflation, production and growth; - Saving, Investment and the financial system; - The monetary systems; - Aggregate demand and aggregate supply; - Monetary and fiscal policies.
