Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the student will be provide the knowledge of the peculiar features of criminal law for multicultural societies, especially its specific and protective nature which guides this subject, acquiring also the awareness that an incisive perspective and a detailed study of the main foundations of the criminal law for multicultural societies are necessary.

Teaching Methods

The course is taught by frontal lectures. However, particular attention will be drawn on direct exchanges and discussions between professor and students who can make proposals of deepening subjects.
During the course, seminars and labs in the matter of the analysis of provisions and cases of law are organized for attending students. All the topics will concern the subjects that are taught during the series of lectures and that show more hints of interests with the involvement of the students.

Assessment Methods

The final exam consists of an oral interview evaluating the following capabilities of the students in:
- Assuming scientifically appropriate methods for the study of the proposed themes.
- Facing the study of the texts and discussions during the lectures (for attending students) in a critical way with particular attention of the use of the source of reference.
Discussing the themes developed during the lectures of the course (for attending students) or only in reference to the texts specified in the teaching program (for non-attending students) developing autonomous analysis, proper language, capacity to be concise and in an organic way.

Contents

The course dedicates a detailed analysis to the cultural plurality of contemporary societies, with specific reference to:
- culturally motivated crimes and the protection of victims;
- illegal intermediation and labor exploitation of migrants;
- the intersection between criminal law and international protection;
- propaganda and incitement to crime for reasons of racial, ethnic and religious discrimination.
