Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course objective is to give the student the knowledge to evaluate the stress state and safety of complex mechanical components and systems with high strength-to-mass ratio. Complex mechanical systems will be designed and calculated by means of theoretical machine design advanced methods.

Machine Design


Teaching Methods

Lectures, tutorials, practice in experimental or computer labs.

Contents

Fundamentals of anisotropic continuum mechanics. Design of structures composed of composite and light alloys materials. Probabilistic design with light alloys and composite materials made structures. Fracture mechanics basic concepts. Design methods: Fail-Safe and Safe-Life. Construction elements. Rigid, elastic and articulated joints; friction clutches; mechanical brakes.
