Course Objectives
1) Course Objectives (Official Course):
Acquisition of theoretical knowledge regarding the evolution, formation, and functions of terminology in contemporary Russian. Development, at a metalinguistic level, of operational skills for analyzing term structures within Russian legal language. Advanced development of translation skills, with a specific focus on the field of European law.
2) Instrumental objectives (exercises/AAL):
Enhancement of syntactic and lexical knowledge of the Russian language to an advanced C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.
By the end of the course, students will have acquired, consolidated, and improved their practical skills across the four communicative abilities at the CEFR C1 level, as well as their translation skills (Russian–Italian). To this end, attendance at the dedicated language learning activities (AAL) is highly recommended, although not formally mandatory. For the content of the AAL, as well as the procedures and schedule for the relevant assessment tests, please refer to the CLA (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo/University Language Centre) website
Course Prerequisites
Language Proficiency: Level B2+ of knowledge and competence in the Russian language (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR).
Prerequisites: Students must successfully pass the Russian Language LM I exam before they are permitted to sit for this exam.
Teaching Methods
1) teaching methods of the official course:
Teaching is carried out through lectures in Russian. Particular attention is paid to group discussions of empirical works. During the course, individual works will be required that will contribute to the final assessment. All links and materials used during the course will be made progressively available on the e-learning platform (Moodle).

Assessment Methods
The exam includes both written and oral tests. For the procedures and schedule of the proficiency tests relating to the AAL, please refer to the CLA website. Passing every single written test is a prerequisite for accessing the final course examination. The final course examination is structured as follows: 1) Written exam (60 minutes): Designed to assess translation competencies from Italian into Russian for specialized texts, alongside the comparative analysis of legal and institutional discourse; 2) Oral exam: An interview conducted entirely in Russian (approximately 15 minutes) to evaluate argumentative skills through the presentation of a topic pre-arranged with the lecturer. Any individual assignments completed during the course will contribute to the final grade. All examination components are graded on a 30-point scale (minimum passing mark: 18/30).
Assessment Criteria:
- Linguistic accuracy (lexical, morphosyntactic, pragmatic, and phonological).
- Terminological precision and appropriateness of the adopted register.
- Command of analytical tools and the level of metalinguistic reflection.
The assessments are divided into thirtieths according to the following bands:
- Excellent (30 cum laude) – Knowledge and skills fully acquired and applied with precision, effectiveness and autonomy. No errors.
- Very good (30–27) – Very solid knowledge and skills, applied correctly and confidently. Any minor and non-recurring errors.
- Good (26–24) – Adequate knowledge and skills, with some uncertainty or imprecision. Errors present but not serious or systematic.
- Sufficient (23–18) – Basic knowledge and skills acquired, but applied partially or with obvious errors. Sufficient general understanding.
- Insufficient (less than 18) – Deficient knowledge and skills not adequately developed. Numerous errors that compromise the success of the task.
Contents
1) Course Content (Official Course):
The module introduces the study of Russian terminology in specialized languages, combining a theoretical approach with the empirical analysis of authentic data. It covers the origin, evolution, formation, and cross-linguistic equivalence of legal terminology from a comparative Russian–Italian perspective. These topics are examined through the analysis of legal texts related to international security, the energy sector, humanitarian law, and migration. The module is taught in Russian.
