Syllabus

Obiettivi Formativi

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an introduction to the domain of clinical psychology and the role of both science and practice in the development of a unique profession. The course will cover information regarding the field and the profession as well as current empirically based standards, practices, and findings in clinical psychology. The specific goals involve students:
1. Developing knowledge about the field of clinical psychology including theoretical perspectives, philosophical stances on human difficulties, theories underlying assessment, formulation, and treatment. In particular, the students will learn about the uniqueness of clinical psychology in the mental and physical health fields.
2. Developing specific knowledge about the clinical application of the theories and models in terms of how and why particular psychological assessments and formulations are done and how and specific treatments of psychological problems that are based on different perspectives are done.

Prerequisiti

Basic knowledge of research design, psychological models and theories, abnormal psychology.

Metodi didattici

The course will involve lectures, in class exercises, student presentations, video demonstrations, and discussions.

Verifica Apprendimento

Grades will be determined by the individual’s participation in a group presentation (20%) and by participation in discussions, in class exercises, group tasks (30%) and a final multiple choice exam(50%).

Contenuti

Course Content: Students will learn about theoretical perspectives that influence research and practice and gain an appreciation of current issues in these areas. Finally, the clinical application of assessment, formulation, and treatment approaches will be covered.
