Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (16/02/2027 - 29/05/2027)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course will consist of two modules: MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI e MOD2 – PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI. At the end of MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI, students will have the knowledge and tools necessary to describe data and perform statistical inference in psychology. They will also have acquired the skills needed to identify appropriate statistical methods to answer specific research questions, apply them, and interpret the results.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of statistics as applied to psychology. The exams METODOLOGIA DELLA RICERCA IN PSICOLOGIA – 40078 and FONDAMENTI DI INFORMATICA E STATISTICA – 40056 are prerequisites for the exam in PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI - 40082.

Teaching Methods

The course will consist of lectures (5 CFU, 30 hours), practical exercises, and labs (1 CFU, 9 hours), with a particular focus on discussion and direct dialogue with students, including through the use of slides.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a single written test covering MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI e MOD2 – PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI.

The exam consists of 62 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 80 minutes, divided into two sections corresponding to the two modules: 31 questions in 40 minutes for MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI and 31 questions in 40 minutes for MOD2 – PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI.

The of the exam is to assess students’ knowledge of basic concepts and to evaluate their ability to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired to concrete problems related to specific research and professional practice contexts. One point will be awarded for each correct answer, and 0 points for each incorrect or missing answer. The final grade corresponds to the sum of the scores assigned to each question. Students must achieve a passing grade—at least 18 out of 31—on each of the two tests (MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI e MOD2 – PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI).

A score of 31 corresponds to a grade of 30 cum laude.

The final grade for the PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI – 40082 exam will be calculated as the average of the scores from the two modules.

Professors reserve the right to assess student learning for those attending the course through separate assessments at the end of each module’s lecture series.

Professors reserve the right to request a supplementary oral interview, even after the written exam has been administered, if deemed necessary to verify that students have effectively acquired the knowledge and skills outlined in the course’s learning objectives and to ensure the correct assignment of the grade.

Exam results will be sent to each student’s institutional email address via the University’s online system.

Contents

The course will consist of two modules: MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI e MOD2 – PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI. In MOD1 - ELEMENTI DI PSICOMETRIA E ANALISI DEI DATI an overview of the main topics related to an introduction to probability and the basic inferential statistical methods of data analysis will be presented. Specifically, the following topics will be covered: tests for differences in means (single sample, independent samples, paired samples), chi-square tests (equal probability, independence, model testing), linear correlation, and linear regression.
