Syllabus

Course Objectives

In the first part of the class, taught by Prof. Trabucco, the student will gain awareness of the relationships between philosophical ideas and historical situations. Through direct examination of some philosophical sources he/she will know what theoretical problems are underlying historical knowledge, and thus peculiar to some geo-political contexts of the past and present.

In the second part of the class, taught by Prof. Maletta, the students will become competent in the usage of the primary notions of ethics.


Course Prerequisites

It is not necessary to have prerequisites for admission.


Teaching Methods

First part of the class. Lectures. Individual and planned analyses of primary bibliography texts.

Second part of the class. Seminar.



Assessment Methods

First part of the class. Exam will be in oral form on the whole program. The dialogue will be constructive of knowledge, which will be an example about what is the collective construction of knowledge.

Second part of the class. Oral discussion of a paper.

The evaluation will be expressed in thirties.



Contents

The first part of the class will explore some classic themes in the relationship between history and philosophy. Beginning with the characters of the nineteenth-century Geschichtsphilosophie, the evolution of the idea of Weltgeschichte will be examined.

The second part of the class will analyse some case-studies to explain the basic moral concepts.
