Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (17/02/2026 - 31/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

This lab aims to:

  • Introduce tools and methods for the scientific analysis of media experience in audiovisual (cinema) and immersive (virtual reality) contexts;
  • Familiarize students with biometric techniques and advanced software for collecting and analyzing psychophysiological and behavioral data;
  • Develop basic practical skills in using software such as iMotions, R, Python, and MatLab for processing data related to user responses to media stimuli;
  • Promote critical understanding of experimental methods applied to media consumption studies.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of film language and immersive media acquired in the module “Audiovisual Media and Immersive Technologies.”

Teaching Methods

  • Hands-on demonstrations of software tools (iMotions, R, Python, MatLab)
  • Group exercises based on real or simulated biometric datasets
  • Case study analysis and experimental protocol simulations
  • Individual technical report on an analytical application in either cinema or VR

Assessment Methods

The acquisition of skills and knowledge is determined by a minimum attendance of 75% of the sessions and the completion of the assignments set by the instructor.
