Syllabus

Course Objectives

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to make informed and conscious financial decisions throughout their lives. The course is designed to enhance financial literacy and improve the management of unforeseen events through short-term and long-term financial planning, with the ultimate goal of improving their financial well-being. By the end of the course, participants will understand the essential financial tools and key aspects to consider before making financial decisions in order to make informed choices both in the Italian and U.S. contexts.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, seminars, case studies, group student presentations, quizzes and practical exercises.


Assessment Methods

The final grade is based on:

 

Active participation in class: 25%

Group work: 25%

Written exam: 50%

The written exam consists of multiple-choice questions only.

 

Recommended readings (for italian students only): “Il sapere che conta - L’ABC della finanza per fare le scelte giuste e prendere in mano il nostro futuro” by Annamaria Lusardi (Mondadori, 2024), in addition to the material presented in class (for everybody).

The course is offered in English as part of the Summer Business Program (only for students enrolled in "Economics," "Business Economics," and Erasmus students). Enrollment is limited. Students wishing to participate must apply following the instructions for the Summer Business Program published at https://www.unibg.it/node/388. Attendance is mandatory. A maximum absence rate of 25% is allowed. Further information on the course organization will be provided during the lessons.
