Course Objectives
The course will cover Hispano-American literature between the 1920s and 1950s, with a particular focus on the Tellurist and Indigenist novel. By the end of the course, students will have acquired a good knowledge of the main aspects of the cultural context of this period, which will be further explored through the reading of three foundational novels by Jorge Icaza, César Uribe Piedrahíta, and Rosario Castellanos. Furthermore, they will achieve a solid understanding of the history and social conditions of rural and indigenous peoples, as well as specific aesthetic, expressive, and thematic characteristics of Hispano-American literature during the first half of the twentieth century.
Course Prerequisites
Good knowledge of the Spanish language.

Assessment Methods
The exam consists of an oral test aimed at verifying the knowledge of the syllabus texts and evaluating the student's critical and interpretive skills. To sit the exam, students must have passed the Spanish Language exam from the previous academic year.
The assessment will evaluate:
- mastery of the required historical-literary knowledge;
- the ability to read and translate the course texts from Spanish into Italian;
- the ability to construct a critical argument on the topics covered during the course, using correct Italian and appropriate references to the texts discussed.
The first part of the exam will assess the students' knowledge of the general course content. In the second part, students will translate and comment on one or more syllabus texts. The evaluation will also take into account clarity of expression and communication skills.
A: Excellent (30 with honors): excellent knowledge of all course content. Excellent ability to analyze texts and contextualize them appropriately. Accurate, correct, and effective presentation.
B: Very Good (30 to 27): very good knowledge of all course content. Very good ability to analyze texts and contextualize them appropriately. Well-structured and correct presentation.
C: Good (26-24): Good knowledge of the course content. Descriptive-only knowledge of the syllabus texts, with acceptable analytical and synthesis skills. Language is almost always correct.
D: Adequate/Pass (23-18): incomplete knowledge of the course content. Limited, yet sufficient, ability to analyze texts. Language is simple, and some errors are present.
