Course Objectives

This 9 credit course consists of two parts: a 6 credit portion taught by Professor Andrés Ortega and a 3 credit portion taught by Professor Luisa Chierichetti. The course as a whole awards 9 credits, and it is not possible to acquire only 6 or only 3 credits. By the end of Professor Ortega's section, students will have acquired theoretical, methodological, and practical tools for understanding and analysing texts in Spanish from various stages in the history of the language. By the end of Professor Chierichetti's section, the students, at a metalinguistic and disciplinary level, will have acquired an overview of the main characteristics of contemporary Peninsular Spanish, with particular reference to issues related to inclusive language.

Course Prerequisites

Level C1 competence in Spanish Language.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with PowerPoint slides. Students will be asked to actively participate in these activities, with exercise and team activities. Guest lecturers may contribute to focus on specific topics.

In both semesters, C1+ Language Learning Activities (AAL) are provided with a native-speaker language instructor. These activities are an integral part of the course and are essential for achieving the C1+ language proficiency required to sit the official course examination. For information on the content and organization of the C1+ LLAs, please refer to the CLA website:: https://cla.unibg.it/it

International exchange students are also required to attend the Language Learning Activities (LLAs). For further information, please contact Prof. Ortega or Prof. Chierichetti.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of two parts: a) an assessment of Language Practice and Communicative Skills and b) an assessment of Main Course content. Part b) can only be taken after successfully passing part a).

a) The Language Practice and Communicative Skills assessment: For information on the assessment tests for the instrumental components of the Spanish Language C1+ Language Learning Activities (AAL) and the corresponding schedule, please refer to the CLA website: https://cla.unibg.it/it

b) The Main Course assessment (official course)
The oral exam of Professor Ortega will be in Spanish and will consist of some open questions on program notions in order to verify the students’ acquisition of the knowledge. The written exam in Spanish for Prof. Chierichetti's section consists of 3 open-ended questions. Knowledge of the academic contents and communicative competence in Spanish (coherence, cohesion, clarity, accuracy, effective style and propriety of language) will be assessed.

Final evaluation
The final grade is calculated as follows:
1/3 from the AAL component (written and oral) and
2/3 from the official course. The grade for the official course is calculated as the weighted average of the assessments for its two components.
Passing all components is mandatory to receive the final grade.

Grading scale (out of 30)
• Excellent (30 with honors): complete knowledge, applied with precision and autonomy. No errors.
• Very good (30–27): solid knowledge, applied correctly. Minor and non-recurring errors.
• Good (26–24): adequate knowledge, with some inaccuracies. No serious or systematic errors.
• Sufficient (23–18): basic knowledge, with evident errors but sufficient understanding.
• Insufficient (<18): insufficient knowledge, numerous errors compromising the exam result.
