Dracula. Fantasmi

Drawing on the huge bibliography on Dracula, the book re-reads Bram Stoker's classic as an archive of the modern cultural imaginary in the areas of geopolitics, gender studies, history of medicine and subjugated knowledges, media archeology and performance studies. These areas constellate around the figure of the Undead and its spectral permutations, which are connected to the cultural context of the fin de siècle as well as to the vampire's revivals in the following centuries. In foregrounding the entanglement between the gothic imagination and history, the book suggests a role for the Gothic in shaping both the story-telling and the cultural critique of modernity.
