ENEL was the first company to try apprenticeship in Italian education. Despite this merit, the initiative was influenced by some prejudices typical of the Italian school tradition. This sperimentation has missed the specific value of apprenticeship, which is not the link – certainly positive – between education and job placement, but the possibility offered to young people to enlighten their work experience through the cultural and scientific tools learned at school, to use them in a life long learning. The survey conducted among the trainees and teachers of Istituto Marconi (Piacenza) shows that the initiative's success is due to psychological rather than pedagogical reasons.
