abstract:
Urban public spaces represent the places where European and Italian citizens practice everyday physical activity and sport. However, a lack of awareness about their relevance can be seen in the promotion of active lifestyles in frailer groups, specifically children and elderlies, as discussed in this monography.
The book answers positively to the hypothesis that public spaces own an educational intentionality by exploring the links among Human Movement Sciences, Pedagogy, Town Planning, Urban Mobility while tracing the recent history looking at shared planning.
The discussion about the "body as third" is the culmination of a reflection privileging psychomotor over physical, valuing gestures, and envisaging active lifestyles as embodied habitus.
Principles and criteria for an integral planning of the spaces are described in the light of a transdiciplinary reflection about the corporeality, the vicariances, the polysemy of the public spaces, and the sustainability of the cities organized around the moving body.
