Abstract:
Literally “popular tribunal” or “popular judgment,” the Roman iudicium populi was a criminal trial where the verdict was given by the assembly of the people, the comitia centuriata or the comitia tributa; in the Archaic age, the ancient comitia centuriata had jurisdiction over the most serious criminal offences.
