abstract:
This study contributes to the organizational literature on employee involvement in the decisions that affect their work and the organization they belong to. In particular, the study focuses on the relationship between employee voice mechanisms and organizational performance and on how such relationship varies depending on the level of organizational human capital. The analysis of 168 Italian companies shows that both employee voice mechanisms and organizational human capital have a positive relationship with firm performance. In addition, the results indicate that the highest organizational performance levels occur in companies where high employee voice and high human capital are jointly present. These results thus support the idea that practices directed at enhancing employee involvement and human capital complement each other, leading to superior company performance.
