abstract:
The paper has the purpose of suggesting, in the framework of the corporeal turn in the international historical-education research, an analysis of the progressive development of an interior self-regulation in the «seconde enfance» promoted through some activities of hygienic care and corporeal education described in three handbooks for the infant schools published, respectively, from 1823 to 1833, by Samuel Wilderspin in Great Britain, Ferrante Aporti in the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia (Northern Italy) and Jean-Denys Cochin in France. There is the presence of a common educational model, influenced by Robert Owen’s thought, and characterized by an idea of full education (physical, intellectual, and moral), aimed at the behavioral and emotional self-regulation of the children, as a first step of the wider process of lower-class people’s civilization in modern society.
