abstract:
There are currently several scientific evidence that support the promotion of a high-quality physical education teaching in primary school. This contribution takes part to the ongoing debate on the knowledge, skills and competences required to the professional figures who will be involved in high-quality physical education teaching in primary school. Indeed, in addition to the relative provisions of law, which are still under approval by the involved policy makers, there is a lively debate between the supporters of the importance of the inclusion of a specialized teacher and those who support the maintenance of a nonspecialized teacher in the context of the teaching of curricular physical education. In this respect, we believe that nowadays these professional figures could be properly trained by means of the integration of two main courses currently available in our university system, namely the LM85bis degree (i.e. Primary education Science) an the L22 degree (Exercise and Sport Science). This integrated curriculum has been activated for two years already at the Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Milan.
