abstract:
Aim of the work is to study the corrosion rate of steel in CO 2 saturated condensates. Weight loss tests were carried out in an autoclave, exposing specimens completely immersed in water saturated with CO 2 at 20 bar and 50° C, in the gaseous phase, in the presence of CO 2 saturated with H 2 O at 20 bar and 50° C and on specimens exposed in gaseous CO 2 saturate with water with the walls cooled to different temperatures. To carry out these tests, a special cooling system for the specimens at the head of the autoclave was developed. The tests were carried out with different exposure times. The results obtained showed very high corrosion rates in the aqueous phase, which however are reduced as the exposure time increases due to the formation of an iron carbonate scale. The samples in gaseous CO 2 saturated with water give negligible corrosion rates. The specimens in CO 2 with condensation show corrosion rates that increase as the wall temperature decreases due to the increase in the amount of condensate.
