abstract:
Designing for abandonment, in other words pre-occupied with the effects (divestment, loss of interest, obsolescence...) in the medium- to long-term produced by settlement dynamics. The theme takes prominence particularly for the settlement reorganization that characterizes territories with high settlement and production density, such as the Padano-Veneto region, where the set of spatial effects produced in particular by the reorganization of productive systems
and logistic-commercial determines an overlapping of logics
settlements with different scales and rationalities, and largely
divorced from traditional spatial arrangements.
Divestment looking ahead therefore, at the limits of practices
of addition and current urban and territorial transformation: we have progressively assumed as a physiological development, neglecting its often its effects, the abandonment of spaces for production in consolidated fabrics in favor of suburban settlements: the decommissioning or underutilization of warehouses represents a waste of resources and at the same time a public problem from the territorial and environmental point of view.
And from these considerations emerges the need to know how to place oneself in a "transition" phase, by its nature an "intermediate and critical" phase; thus taking an attitude open to risk and experimentation, setting aside certainties and protagonism. Precisely assume the term "transition," as the key to the historical place contemporary in the processes of organization/reorganization territorial, legitimizes a commitment to experimentation that invests the institutional subjects and territorial actors all.
