This article analyses the competitive dimension present in sport, with the aim of showing under which conditions sport can generate processes of real education for our societies. To do this, the essay studies some structural aspects of sport competition, distinguishing it, through analogies and differences, from other practices, such as play, which promotes more a physical education. The thesis is that sports experience tends to celebrate excessively, also through the narrations that accompany, the victory as the very purpose of the whole process, reducing the importance of the transformations and improvements that participants can achieve even without winning
