Plurilinguisme et identités sociales: le cas de la mixité conjugale. Le projet 'MIXCLASIS'

Present-day societies are ever more multilingual and multicultural. In this context, the increasing number of mixed couples offers a remarkable object of study to social and human scientists. The MIXCLASIS project aims to describe and to shed light on the phenomenon of « conjugal mixity » as a specific familial context. What challenges confront couples whose members do not share the same language-culture and the same citizenship? What are their choices in terms of accommodation, use of languages and definition of self and of others? The paper presents the aims and methodology of the research. It also outlines first considerations on the name(s) given by French-Italian couples to their children and on « double mixed » couples.
