abstract:
The Civic Collaboration Movement was born in Italy on 29 November 1945 as an expression of democratic rebirth in a state torn apart by war: men and women such as Giuliana Benzoni, Cecrope Barilli and Ebe Flamini gave life to the Movement with the precise aim, among others, of interpreting reconstruction as a purely educational phenomenon. An important fruit of the Movement were the courses for educators held from 1949 onwards in the Caetani castle in Sermoneta: a minority experience, often opposed by the ministerial bureaucracy, but useful in understanding the birth and development of a secular intellectual line, reformist but not communist, which within a few years would be crushed by the polarisation of the country's cultural and political life
