abstract:
This study investigates how Frauendienst, the pseudo-autobiographical work by Ulrich von Lichtenstein (1200–1276), has been presented to Italian readers through translations by Gianna Murri, Giovanni Vittorio Amoretti, and Maria Vittoria Molinari. By analysing four Tanzlieder and a Leich from the work, the article explores the translators’ approaches to balancing the formal, semantic, and ironic aspects of the original text. Comparative insights with John W. Thomas’s English translation (Service of Ladies) provide further context. The findings highlight how different editorial strategies shape the Italian reception of Ulrich’s work, offering pathways for renewed engagement with his poetic legacy.
